07 Jan 2011
Rovi Media Cloud Rovi Corp.
a worldwide leader in digital entertainment technology solutions, has launched its new Rovi Media Cloud set of connected TV products at CES, Las Vegas. These Media Cloud web services are designed to allow the rapid creation of new products and applications for the connected consumer - by "bringing Rovi's advertising, entertainment metadata, recommendations, search, media recognition, and user and device management technologies directly to their customers via the ever-expanding cloud", Rovi press release, 7/1/2011. The launch of these services will certainly help to keep Rovi at the forefront of connected TV technology and support them in achieving their goal of powering the next wave of digital entertainment with content discovery, delivery and enhanced interactivity capabilities.
Consumer Based Product Launches: Up until now, Rovi has primarily operated as a business to business company and it was interesting to hear them announce two consumer based products at this year's CES - "What’s On TV?", a celebrity and programme information app, and a mobile music app. “We are a business-to-business company but we are launching some consumer-facing apps to stimulate the market,” Charles Dawes, Rovi Product Development Director EMEA, explained. Rovi are making significant investments into the connected TV space and the launch of these products can be seen as a clever move in helping to grow and develop this space.
