Telia is the largest Nordic and Baltic fixed voice, broadband and mobile operator with over 1.3 million IPTV customers

Objectives

With the fast pace of change in television services Telia recognised the need to maintain a forward thinking TV product roadmap and identify key areas for investment to extend their leadership.

Approach

We have a strong understanding and extensive experience of Pay TV operators’ strategies across the globe, using this experience we built a global review of TV service provider feature sets.

Firstly we took a quantitative approach looking at what operators are doing creating a global operator matrix of features and services, which reviewed operator strategies, how this varied by operator characteristics, and what trends were emerging.

We then added a qualitative layer, pulling out some selected highlights on service providers. This included detailed analysis of Pay TV operators such as Comcast (US), Virgin Media (UK), Now TV (Hong Kong), ZON (Portugal), and disruptive players such as Netflix.

Results

We successfully delivered the report in a workshop in Telia’s offices to multiple stakeholders. The report enabled Telia to challenge their own investment domains and produce a gap analysis on their own strategy. It also helped them in prioritising development and making decisions that could be further justified to the business with valuable benchmarks.
